Grand Seiko Evolution 9 GMT SBGE283 Black

Grand Seiko Evolution 9 GMT SBGE283 Black

This new GMT design measures 41mm in diameter, 13.9mm in thickness, and 48.3mm lug-to-lug. The case has hairline finished surfaces along its top, side, and bezel. As a point of contrast, mirror-polished facets result in an eye-catching play of light and shadow. SBGE283 is made of High-Intensity Titanium, which is 30% lighter than stainless steel. The hairline-finished bracelet is about 50 to 55% of the diameter of the watch case, and its weight and width ensure a stable fit on the wrist.

SBGE283 has a high-contrast black dial. The hour hand is clearly distinguished from the minute hand, and the multi-dimensional indexes ensure legibility. For dark conditions, there is LumiBrite on the hands and indexes.

9R66 caliber is rated to +/-15 seconds a month and delivers a power reserve of three days. The second hand moves in a perfect, silent glide motion, a defining feature of Spring Drive watches.

About Grand Seiko

Grand Seiko emerged in 1960 as a high-end watch line from Seiko, aiming to challenge Swiss dominance in luxury watchmaking. The brand quickly established itself with Japan's first chronometer-grade watch and later gained renown for its innovative Spring Drive technology, which combines the best of automatic and quartz movements. In 2017, Grand Seiko became an independent entity, solidifying its position in the luxury watch market.

The brand's design philosophy, known as the "Grammar of Design," was established in 1967 with the Grand Seiko 44GS. This aesthetic approach emphasizes legibility, refined appearances, and distinctive features like multi-faceted markers and hands, a half-recessed crown, and the meticulous Zaratsu polishing technique. Grand Seiko continues to push boundaries in watchmaking, as evidenced by recent innovations like the "Kodo Constant-Force Tourbillon," while maintaining its commitment to precision engineering and unique design language.
